Honors

The Department of Technology invites our eligible majors to apply for admission to the Departmental Honors Program by visiting the Illinois State University's Honors program. A student can graduate with honors, which will be indicated on the student's official transcript, and usually on their diploma as well.

Departmental Honors Requirements

  1. Be a student in good standing in the Illinois State University Honors Program
  2. Be a full-time student at Illinois State University
  3. Completed a minimum of 60 hours
  4. Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
  5. Be a declared major in Industrial Technology

Honors Program Requirements

The following requirements have to be met:

  • A university grade point average of 3.3
  • A departmental grade point average of 3.5
  • Successful completion of (2) in-course honors courses, 200-level or higher, in the student's technical area
  • Successful completion of a minimum of (3) credit hours of TEC 299 (or if TEC 299 is not offered, TEC 287 Independent Study may be used in place of TEC 299).

Students must initiate Independent Honors Study projects and arrange the guidance of a faculty member. These projects should require intensive study in an area of special interest to the student in topics of Technology.

Application Process

Students should visit the Illinois State University Honors Office and fill out the departmental honors form. That office will send the form to the Department of Technology to sign, and the student will then be notified if they will receive Departmental Honors.
