Curriculum
Construction Management is an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides a background in construction means and methods, business administration, communication skills, architectural and engineering fundamentals, applied science, and mathematics.
Accreditation
The Construction Management program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) and was most recently re-accredited in 2022. Click here for our public disclosure information.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Construction Management program, students will be able to:
- Create written communications appropriate to the construction discipline.
- Create oral presentations appropriate to the construction discipline.
- Create a construction project safety plan.
- Create construction project cost estimates.
- Create construction project schedules.
- Analyze professional decisions based on ethical principles.
- Analyze methods, materials, and equipment used to construct projects.
- Apply electronic-based technology to manage the construction process.
- Apply basic surveying techniques for construction layout and control.
- Understand different methods of project delivery and the roles and responsibilities of all constituencies involved in the design and construction process.
- Understand construction accounting and cost control.
- Understand construction quality assurance and control.
- Understand construction project control processes.
- Understand the legal implications of contract, common, and regulatory law to manage a construction project.
- Understand the basic principles of sustainable construction.

Major Curriculum
A Bachelor of Science degree at Illinois State requires a minimum of 120 credit hours. Of these total hours, the Construction Management major requires 93 credit hours of coursework. The major hours are divided into four areas: General Education, Construction Management Core, Construction Management Electives, and Management Core courses.

Required Work Experience
Students in the Construction Management major are required to complete 800 hours of work experience. This must be done prior to enrolling in the senior capstone course (TEC 394 Construction Management and Administration).
