Internships
Internships and cooperative work experiences (co-ops) provide an opportunity to gain professionally supervised work experience in industry, business, or government while earning college credit.
Internships
All internships must last a minimum of 8 weeks. Students earn one credit hour for each 40 hours on the job.
In order to participate in an internship, a student must:
- Be a TEC major
- Complete 30 hours of college coursework
- Complete 12 hours of college coursework at Illinois State
- Overall and major GPA of 2.5
- Complete the required TEC 100-series courses
- Complete 3 hours of 200/300 level courses in the TEC major
Credit
All internships and co-ops will be graded as course number TEC 398. Students will receive a grade of Credit or No Credit. No letter grades will be assigned. The course may be repeated for a total of 16 hours.
Applications
To apply for TEC 398 and to obtain more information, print the TEC 398 manual. All necessary information about requirements during the internship process are in the manual, as are all of the application necessary forms.
- Submit your resume and the completed application form to Professor Randy Jacobs, coordinator of professional practice for the Department of Technology.
- Obtain two (2) TEC faculty recommendations using forms found in the manual. Note that one of these recommendations must be by a faculty member from your area of study in the Department of Technology.

Co-ops
All co-ops must last for a minimum of three work terms. Each work term lasts a minimum of 8 weeks. Students earn one credit hour for each 40 hours on the job.
In order to participate in a co-op a student must:
- Be a TEC major
- Complete at least two semesters of Illinois State coursework
- Have completed your required TEC 100-series courses
- Have an overall and major GPA of 2.5
