Renewable Energy Facilities and Equipment

The Renewable Energy program offers cutting-edge facilities and equipment showcasing collaborative research, education, and demonstration activities. Our faculty who operate these facilities and equipment are available to work with students and share their expertise.

Renewable Energy Laboratory

Students have access to a variety of renewable energy equipment including solar photovoltaic workstations, wind energy workstations, wind tunnel, and heliodon as part of lab activities in the Renewable Energy program core courses. One collaboration station and four computer stations are available for individual or team projects.

Facilities

  • 2.4kW solar photovoltaic system in Turner Hall
  • Meteorological tower in nearby Lexington
  • 1kW solar photovoltaic system and 1kW wind turbine at Illinois State's Horticulture Center

Software

Students utilize a variety of renewable energy software tools including System Advisor Model, Windographer, EnergyPLAN, and RETScreen.
