Curriculum
The Technology and Engineering Education curriculum utilizes a broad base of courses in general, technical, and professional education to prepare individuals to teach technology and engineering education at multiple levels.
ITEEA/CTETE/NCATE Standards
Our curriculum is designed to meet the standards set by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA), the Council on Technology and Engineering Teacher Education (CTETE) of ITEEA, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE):
- The Nature of Technology. Technology and engineering teacher education program candidates develop an understanding of the nature of technology within the context of the Designed World.
- Technology and Society. Technology and engineering education program candidates develop an understanding of technology and society within the context of the Designed World.
- Design. Technology and engineering education program candidates develop an understanding of design within the context of the Designed World
- Abilities for a Technological World. Technology and engineering education program candidates develop abilities for a technological world within the context of the Designed World.
- The Designed World. Technology and engineering education program candidates develop an understanding of the Designed World.
- Curriculum. Technology and engineering education program candidates design, implement, and evaluate curricula based upon the national Standards for Technological Literacy.
- Instructional Strategies. Technology and engineering education program candidates use a variety of effective teaching practices that enhance and extend learning of technology.
- Learning Environments. Technology and engineering education program candidates design, create, and manage learning environments that promote technological literacy.
- Students. Technology and engineering education program candidates understand students as learners, and how commonality and diversity affect learning.
- Professional Growth. Technology and engineering education program candidates understand and value the importance of engaging in comprehensive and sustained professional growth to improve the teaching of technology.
In addition to the broad standards above, the program allows one to further their content expertise in one or more of the following technical content specialization areas:

Major Curriculum
The Technology and Engineering Education program requirements are part of the program leading to secondary education licensure (grades 6-12). A minimum 2.5 GPA is required in the major and cumulatively for the student to student teach and to graduate.
The hours are divided into four sections: General Education, Technology and Engineering Education Core, Professional Education, and Electives. To learn more about each course, the prerequisites and any additional degree requirements, review the Illinois State University Catalog.

Electives
Nine hours of electives are required. For a complete list of the electives, we recommended the student meet with the Advisor.
Minors
Students can major in Technology and Engineering Education and also minor in another subject area. However, completing a minor may require additional coursework and time.
